Fall Reading Guide aka my Fall Book Recommendations and somewhat of a TBR (even though I don’t do TBRs)

Are you looking for your next perfect Fall read? WELL, LOOK NOT FURTHER BECAUSE I’M HERE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH SOME FANTASTIC FALL READING RECOMMENDATIONS.

This post will include a mix of books that I’ve read and enjoyed and that I feel like fit perfectly into the Fall season because they give off autumnal vibes! I will also mention a few books that I haven’t actually read and (possibly) plan to read around the Fall season!

it’s not really the first day but it’s AUTUMN AKA THE BEST SEASON

I have a huge physical pile of (unread) Fall-ish books that I’ve put on my nighstand which is literally about to topple over and suffocate me in my sleep—IT’S THAT HUGE. I wouldn’t necessarily call this pile my Fall TBR, but rather books on my never-ending, about-to-murder-me TBR that give me Fall feels and that I can see myself reading this season!

I like giving myself options of books to choose from instead of trying (the emphasis lies on TRYING here) to read all the books I’ve put on a monthly TBR list.

Please enjoy my way-too-long list of Fall reading recommendations and my Fall TBR (even though it’s not really a TBR!!!).

ARC August TBR // let’s tackle those ARCs we’ve been avoiding!!

Oh looooook, I found a super cool challenge to participate in next month!

I’m so happy that I stumbled across the #ARCAugust hashtag on Twitter because I’ve been needing some motivation to get through some of my Netgalley ARCs that I’ve been meaning to read since March!

My current Netgalley ratio is 75% WHICH IS AWESOME and the highest it’s ever been!!! But I’ve never actually reached that precious 80% so that’s what I’ll be attempting to do in August!

I currently have 8 ARCs left to read on Netgalley. While I don’t plan to read ALL of them next month, I want to get through a good chunk of them!

I’ve also received some ARCs from authors or for blog tours which need to be reviewed this month so I’m quite determined!

You can still sign-up for the ARC August challenge here! Continue reading “ARC August TBR // let’s tackle those ARCs we’ve been avoiding!!”

Popular Series I’m Ashamed I Haven’t Read (Yet) – Pt. 2

Welcome to another round of SHAME where I talk to you about all the popular series I haven’t read (yet) and you get to throw sticks and stones (and whatever else you may find) at me!

I have already done a part 1 of this which you can find here! As you can see, I have read the ACOTAR series so at least I crossed one series off that list! Woo!

This time, I’ve decided to look at series that I actually own and see which ones I still need to read!

Let’s just get right into the series because this will be shameful enough *runs*

Should I Stay or Should I Go? – Decluttering my TBR (with your help!)

This is a slightly different version of Down the TBR Hole because I DON’T KNOW WHETHER TO KEEP THESE OR NOT!

I need opinions… lots of them!

I was going through my TBR list and I found so many books that are popular and very hyped up but also have some 1 star and DNF reviews! And I was just confused!!!

TBR hole Declutter

I picked out 5 books where I was unsure what to do and I am hoping that you guys can help me!

Should I keep them and read them ASAP? Should I delete them from my TBR and forget about them forever?

Decisions, people. DECISIONS.

If you’ve read any of the following books, please let me know what you loved/hated about them and whether I should keep or delete! THANK YOU! Continue reading “Should I Stay or Should I Go? – Decluttering my TBR (with your help!)”

My Summer TBR!

IT’S ALMOST THE END OF MAY WHICH MEANS SUMMER IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER AND IT’S TIME TO WORK ON YOUR BEACH BODY (which I won’t do bc #lazy) AND BUY CUTE SUMMER-Y CLOTHES WOOO!!!

And it’s also time for a huge Summer TBR!

When I saw that The Broke and the Bookish aka the hosts of Top Ten Tuesday updated their topics for the following weeks and I noticed the Summer Reads Freebie I was like:

“YES I’M GONNA MAKE THIS A HUGE SUMMER TBR FILLED WITH CUTE CHEESY CONTEMPORARIES BECAUSE SUMMERTIME IS THE TIME OF FLUFF AND ADORABLE-NESS”

Yes…. that is the only reason… and not because I have like 30 contemporaries on my shelves that still need to be read and there’s too many contemporary pre-orders waiting to be shipped to my house in the following weeks…

LOL XD

ANYWAY. Then I saw May’s big Summer TBR and if you didn’t know this, May is one of my closest, bestest blogger friends and we are so similar and pretty much agree on almost EVERYTHING, so I KNEW I had to make a Summer TBR post as well! 😀

And since I planned to do a Spring TBR post but forgot about it *cough* or should I say I wouldn’t have followed through with it anyway lol *cough* I DECIDED I’D DEFINITELY DO A TBR FOR SUMMER!

So here we are! This is gonna be a LOOOONG list of mostly contemporaries but also some SFF books so strap yourselves in, get some popcorn and enjoy the ride that is my (very ambitious) SUMMER TBR list!!!!!!!! 😀

I own both The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon and I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson and they’ve been on my TBR for AGES so I really hope to read them soon! I mean, they have the word SUN in the title – I feel like I am obligated to read at least ONE of them!!! 😀

Also… The Hating Game!!! All of my friends who know that I’m a SUCKER for hate-to-love tropes rec’d me this book and I REALLY NEED TO READ IT!!! *heart eyes*

And I’ve been meaning to read By Your Side because Mandy (again :P) talked about it in one of her posts and when I read the synopsis just now, I saw that it featured a hate-to-love relationship!!! WOOOO!!! 😀

THE FAKE DATING TROPE AHHHH ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVORITES

The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West: I have never read any of Kasie West’s books but I’ve seen a lot of bloggers raving about them so I’ll read By Your Side first and this one next! I literally only just discovered this but it sounds like it’s exactly my cup of tea 😀

THAT’S IT!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, this was such a fun post lol sorry that this got so long *whoopsies* I COULD HAVE PUT EVEN MORE BOOKS ON HERE but let’s be real… I’ll probably only read 3 out of the 267 books that are on this list LOL 😛

Waiting on Wednesday: 27 Hours by Tristina Wright – go preorder this book!!!

Since I am skipping this week’s Top 5 Wednesday, I decided to highlight one of my most anticipated releases of 2017! And since Wednesday is “Meme-Day” here on Too Much of a Book Nerd – lol not really, I just made that up – I decided to turn this into a Waiting on Wednesday post!

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine. It is a weekly meme that spotlights upcoming book releases that you’re eagerly anticipating.

SOOOOOOO…

As I said before, the following book is one of my MOST HIGHLY ANTICIPATED RELEASES this year!!!! You might have heard of it before, or you haven’t. But that’s cool because I am here and I’m about to share it with you!

Anddddd the book is called……………

*drum roll please*

27 Hours by Tristina Wright

And if you’re wondering: “Jackie, why is this one of your most anticipated releases this year?????” BOY, LET ME TELL YOU 😀

This is a book for the QUEER KIDS! 27 Hours has absolutely zero, niente, nada, no straight characters!!! Woooo!!! The rep in this book is really damn great – we have a-, bi- and pansexuals, people of colour and disabled characters! LIKE WHAAAAT?! And this is a SFF book! Queer teens in space, what more could you want? And apparently this is a very fast-paced and action-packed story with incredible writing! AND it is part of a series! YESSSS!

This book has it all AND I AM TOTALLY HERE FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!

But enough talking from me, let’s check out the synopsis below!

“Rumor Mora fears two things: hellhounds too strong for him to kill, and failure. Jude Welton has two dreams: for humans to stop killing monsters, and for his strange abilities to vanish.

But in no reality should a boy raised to love monsters fall for a boy raised to kill them.

Nyx Llorca keeps two secrets: the moon speaks to her, and she’s in love with Dahlia, her best friend. Braeden Tennant wants two things: to get out from his mother’s shadow, and to unlearn Epsilon’s darkest secret.

They’ll both have to commit treason to find the truth.

During one twenty-seven-hour night, if they can’t stop the war between the colonies and the monsters from becoming a war of extinction, the things they wish for will never come true, and the things they fear will be all that’s left.

27 Hours is a sweeping, thrilling story featuring a stellar cast of queer teenagers battling to save their homes and possibly every human on Sahara as the clock ticks down to zero.”

Now, if I have helped you jump on the aweseomeness wagon that is 27 Hours and you’re thinking: “Wow, Jackie! Thanks for sharing this wonderfully queer masterpiece of a book with us! Where can I order it?”

HAVE NO FEAR, MY FRIENDS! MAMA JACKIE AIN’T PLAYING GAMES! I don’t even know what I’m saying lol DON’T MIND ME but rather check out all the preorder links down below!

Goodreads / Amazon US / Amazon UK / Barnes & Noble

Add it to your Goodreads TBR by simply clicking the button:

27 Hours (The Nightside Saga, #1)

The book is being released on October 3rd 2017 – still so far away *cries* – but thank god for the pre-order option, am I right?

And if you’re wondering… NO, this post is NOT sponsored and I wasn’t asked to do this or whatever. I am just GENUINELY PUMPED FOR THIS RELEASE BECAUSE I HAVE A FEELING IT’S GOING TO BE AWESOME! And I wanted to promote it and get the word out there! So please, if you get the chance, buy/preorder this fabulous book!

Thanks for reading!

May TBR

My list of planned reads for the month of May will be very small and unambitious lol. I’ve only been back at uni for 2 weeks but I already have 2 books to read, 3 essays  and many more assignments to write. And I just don’t believe that I will get that much reading done. And if I do, I don’t want to constrict myself to a TBR! 😀

A Court of Wings and Ruin – Sarah J. Maas

Alright, it’s actually kind of convenient that my copy won’t be here until Tuesday because I have to read another book for uni until Monday! But once I’ve read that I can fully indulge in the feels that ACOWAR will be giving me! *heart eyes*

That being said, I will probably have to avoid social media all week! I’ve partly been spoiled for the first two books in the trilogy and I just really want to get into the third book blind! So that means no Twitter and Goodreads for me this week 😦

ALSO IF YOU PLAN TO TALK ABOUT ACOWAR IN ANY OF YOUR POSTS IT’D BE REALLY NICE IF YOU MENTIONED THAT SOMEWHERE SO I DON’T ACCIDENTALLY SPOIL MYSELF THANKSSS 🙂 ❤

A Classic a month

As you may or may not know, I am trying (and failing) to read one classic every month! This month, my choice has been made for me since I have to read both The Picture of Dorian Gray, which I’ve actually been wanting to read for a while, and The Jungle Books for class! I’ll be writing quizzes on both of these sooooo yeah :’)

I’ll keep the rest of the month open – I still have a few books from Netgalley to read and review this month and I’ll just see if I will be able to find the time to read other books inbetween assignments and essays!

Thank you for reading!

Buttonnnn
YAY I LOVE THIS ONEEEE 😀

Most Anticipated Book Releases – May 2017

Since April is coming to an end (whaaat?) and May will bless us with some great new books, I thought I’d share my favourite/most highly anticipated releases for the month of May with you!

*click on the book covers to be directed to the Goodreads page*ACOWAR

A Court of Wings and Ruin – Sarah J. Maas:

I feel like this one is on EVERYONE’S list! It comes out in a few days and I honestly can’t wait! I’ve only read ACOTAR and I’m currently reading ACOMAF for the first time but I am so obsessed!

BY THE WAY…… I am OUTRAGED!!!!!! APPARENTLY MY COPY OF ACOWAR WON’T BE HERE UNTIL THE 9TH OF MAY!!! :OOOOOO So, I’ll probably avoid all social media until I’ve actually read it because I don’t want to be spoiled for this one!!!

Release Day: May 2nd 2017

WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI

When Dimple Met Rishi – Sandhya Menon

I have been waiting for this book for MONTHS and I honestly can’t believe it will be here soon!!!! The end of May can’t come fast enough! It’s about two Indian-American teens whose parents have arranged for them to be married. It’s supposed to be a super sweet and adorable and genuinely funny YA novel and I can’t wait to read it! And isn’t that just the cutest cover EVER!!! 😀

Release Day: May 30th 2017

Noteworthy – Riley Redgate

I’ve only seen very few people talk about this book but I heard amazing things about it and I’m quite excited for it to be released! This is a coming of age contemporary novel about a cappella and college and it’s #ownvoices! The MC is Chinese and bisexual and it’s generally a very diverse book that discusses important topics like sexuality, gender etc. You should totally check it out once it releases!

Release Day: May 2nd 2017

The Love Interest – Cale Dietrich

This is a story about teenage spies (which ALREADY makes me want to read it!!!!). Two boys are competing for a girl and she has to choose between the two of them. Whoever the girl doesn’t choose will die. Do I even need to say more???!?!

Release Day: May 16th 2017

The Seafarer’s Kiss –  Julia Ember

This is a bisexual, f/f retelling of The Little Mermaid and WHO DOESN’T LOVE A GOOD MERMAID STORY?!?! A Goodreads review said that this story is about “Ursula outwitting Loki to save the woman she loves” and I was SOLD. Can’t wait to finally read this one!

Release Day: May 4th 2017

Flame in the Mist – Renee Ahdieh

How could I write a post like this and NOT mention Flame in the Mist!!! This is a Mulan retelling or at least has some similarities to Mulan and if that doesn’t make you want to read the book then I don’t know what will!!!

Release Day: May 16th 2017

Thanks for reading!

Jackie x

What are some of your favourite/most highly anticipated May releases? Are any of them on my list? And if they aren’t, please let me know which ones you’re excited about and give me some more recs!!! 😀

Popular Series I’m Ashamed I Haven’t Read (Yet)

As you may or may not be able to tell by the title of this post, I will be talking about (popular) book series that I haven’t read yet! And yes, I am quite ashamed of it! I hereby give you permission to throw sticks and tomatoes at me! 😀

Keep the image of Cersei’s Walk of Shame in mind because that’s what I will be thinking of with every series I’m going to mention! *hides*

*click on the book covers to be directed to the Goodreads page*

The Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare:

I KNOW, I KNOW! Shame on me. This has been on my TBR for the longest time, probably since I finished City of Heavenly Fire (which was AGES ago!!!) so you have every right to throw things at me 😀

A Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy by Sarah J. Maas:

ACOTAR ACOMAF ACOWAR

This is another series that I’ve been meaning to read for sooo long BUT GUESS WHAT?! I got ACOTAR last week and A Court of Mist and Fury is on its way!!! I also pre-ordered A Court of Wings and Ruin SOOOOOO this will be read very soon!!!!!!!!

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater:

Ready to disown me yet? I honestly have no good explanation as to why I haven’t read this one yet. I know that it’s great and amazing and everbody loves it and I WILL get to it soon. Soon-ish. Ha!

Shades of Magic trilogy by V.E. Schwab:

ADSOM

I haven’t really heard of this series until the beginning of 2017 (I believe?) so it hasn’t been on my TBR for too long! I’ll try to get around to it eventually but for now this will sit on my TBR for a while because I want to tackle the books that have been on it for a couple years first! :’)

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon:

The Bone Season

First off, how pretty are these new covers? ❤ On the one hand, I am loving the cover change but on the other hand….. I already have two mismatched editions of The Bone Season and The Mime Order and once I’ll buy The Song Rising, I’ll have ANOTHER edition = 3 different editions of the same series. That BUGS ME TO NO END!!!!! I might have to buy the new editions of the first two books just so I have a matching set 😥 Shame on you, Samantha Shannon for making me waste more money on books!!!!!! 😀 Anyway, back to the point! I’ve put The Bone Season on my April TBR but life is getting very busy right now and I have a feeling that I won’t be able to read this series this month!

Quick side note: Six of Crows would have been on this list too BUT I HAVE JUST STARTED READING IT AND I’M ONLY ON CHAPTER 3 AND IT’S SOOOO GOOD HELP ME!!!!!!! I am not ready for it like PHYSICALLY and EMOTIONALLY not ready to read it! I think I’ll have to take a break because I NEED TIME to read this book and fully immerse myself in it and the beautiful characters. I think I’ll just read ACOTAR first because I can’t deal with all the feels that SOC is giving me right now 😀

So, that’s it for the popular series I’m ashamed I haven’t read yet! To be honest with you guys, I could make a part 2 out of this because there’s a lot more series that I haven’t read yet! But I feel like 5 was enough for today 😀

As always, thanks for reading!

Jackie x

Have you read any of these series? (You probably have, why am I even asking.) Which popular series have you not read yet? And do you feel as ashamed as I do? Which of the series I mentioned should I read first??? Let’s chat in the comments!
