February Recap // A successful reading month, actual (!) update on my WRITING, first ever physical ARC and RESTORE ME RELEASE!!!

Do you ever get that wholesome feeling after finishing a Wrap Up post when you realise how successful your month has been?

Because that’s how I’m feeling right now.

I feel so at ease because not only did I manage to read amazing books this month, but I also took care of my mental health and did a lot of things I enjoy but have neglected over the last few months (eg. WRITING!!!) and it feels so GOOD.

And as you can tell by the title of this post, I have some very exciting things to share with you guys!!!! Ahhh!!!

Thanks for being awesome @ February.

January Recap // my life is One Big Mess, it’s #20GayTeen and I’m back from my hiatus I think?? (also RESTORE ME!!!)

Hey what’s up, it’s been a while! [whenever I say this I’ve got Zayn’s song in my head but I don’t think anyone here gets the reference]

Well, as the title of this post suggests, I am back from the dead (again).

I was literally so motivated to start posting again when I wrote my December Recap, but then life happened and hit me in the face like a brick, and I wasn’t READY to have all these responsibilities thrown at me out of NOWhERe.

me trying to dodge school work, exams, blogging, writing, nervous breakdowns, panic, stress, anxiety and anything else that was trying to get my attention in January

My recap ended up being the only post I wrote in January dkhgdk I’M SORRY.

I’m not one to constantly abandon my blog, go on random unannounced hiatuses and post inconsistently, but it has been happening a lot lately AND I HATE IT.

I desperately hope think that I finally regained my blogging mojo though and I’m excited to see what February brings I MEAN IT’S THE MONTH OF LOVE AFTER ALL *yuck*

For now, please enjoy reading about my 5 nervous breakdowns :)))))

December Recap // Christmas celebrations, fangirl mania and SO MANY BOOKS!

I know we’re already in the middle of January, but December was too good of a month for me.

It was Christmas and I got the best presents from family (BOOKS), friends (BOOKS) and myself (BOOKS). And yes, buying yourself Christmas presents is a thing because you can never have enough books.

December was also my best reading month of the year??? And I just barely* reached my unofficial goal of reading 100 books in 2017??? PHEW.

And what kind of fangirl would I be if I didn’t find a ton of new things to obsess about this month.

Bi the way!!! Don’t forget to enter my *INTERNATIONAL* giveaway which ends next week ahhhh!

*I literally read two comics books 30 minutes before 2018 began!

2017 Wrap Up // Best and Worst + Most Suprising and Disappointing Books of 2017 and everything in between!

Well, well, well. Guess who’s back from the dead her unannounced hiatus.

IT’S YA GIRL JACKIE (in case you forgot my name lmao) aka the one who takes a month to reply to comments and almost never blog hops anymore because she’s trash life gets in the way. But what’s new *shrugs*

I actually planned to go on a 2-week long hiatus between Christmas and now, and I planned to have at least two more posts up before I did that and actually announce the hiatus but….. you know….

THE STRUGGLES OF BEING #LAZY AND #DEMOTIVATED.

But I’m back now (at least for a week or two?) before I go on another hiatus because I’ll be in study hell I mean– okay no I really mean STUDY HELL.

Before I do that though, I wanted to take a look at the year 2017. I honestly can’t believe how FAST it went by—I swear, this was one of the quickest years EVER and while I have accomplished and done some incredible things, I still feel that overall it was pretty meh and I could have done MORE.

However, my 2017 from a bookish perspective was fantastic and it was THE BEST reading year I’ve had so far???? I’m SOOOO excited to go through my Goodreads shelves and see which books I loved and hated most this year AHHHH.

November Recap // not much reading, even less writing and a huge existential crisis + MY FAV AUTHOR TWEETED ME???

What is reading??? What is writing??? What is blogging??? What is life???

What. Even. Was. November.

I don’t think I’ve ever had such a bad reading month. In the first 3 weeks of November, I didn’t even pick up a single book for myself aka I only forced myself through the four tragic/average/trashy/boring books I had to read for uni.

My poor bookshelves were wailing for my attention, begging me to PLEASE JUST PICK OUT A SINGLE BOOK TO READ WE MISS YOU

But my brain was like NUH-UH you’re doing NaNo, you have to focus on WRITING.

Well, guess who didn’t do any writing either?????? Me.

can i take a nap for the next two months pls

Things got better at the end of the month BUT I’M STILL IN THIS WEIRD FUNK WHERE EVERYTHING I DO IS EXHAUSTING.

I don’t want to make my intro too depressing, but be prepared for an enourmous existentital crisis including lots of crying, exhaustion, flailing of arms and MAYBE a handful of good things that happened to me.

PS. HOW IS IT DECEMBER ALREADY IT’S BASICALLY CHRISTMAS AKA 2018 AKA CAN WE NOT IT’S GIVING ME ANXIETY

June Wrap-Up // Books, future plans and NEW GRAPHICS eek!!!

HOW ARE WE HALFWAY THROUGH THE YEAR ALREADY??? CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN??? DID Y’ALL USE SOME TYPE OF MAGIC THAT MAKES TIME GO 10X FASTER???

I feel like I’ve only just started my blog BUT NO – IT’S BEEN 4 MONTHS ALREADY *gasps*

I’m also more than halfway through my semester at uni WHICH IS CRAZY and it makes me nervous as hell because I’ll be writing an exam at the end of the month PLUS two term papers! The thought alone makes me want to go cry in a corner.

July will be a super stressful month for me but once that is over, I’ll be going on vacation! YESSSS!

future me at the beach once my exams are over

I’m rambling again so how about we just get into my June Wrap-Up! Shall we? Continue reading “June Wrap-Up // Books, future plans and NEW GRAPHICS eek!!!”

May Wrap-Up

Well, well, well.

Here we are again. Another month is over and I honestly don’t know where all my time has gone. These months are FLYING by and I feel like I haven’t accomplished anything?????

Huh. Anyway.

I am already doing my May Wrap-Up today because I have my regular TTT and T5W posts scheduled for the next 2 days. And over Whitsuntide break, I will be visiting my family in Poland! ❤

So from Thursday onward until I-don’t-even-know-when-I-am-coming-home lol you won’t hear too much from me and I probably won’t have time to check out your posts either! *sad face* My apologies in advance! Feel free to leave any links down below, if you’ve written any cool posts that you’re super proud of! 🙂

I think that was enough talking, let’s get into the May Wrap-Up!

Books I’ve Read

I have read 8 books this month which is great! I’ve been really busy with uni and I still managed to read as many books as I read last month so I’m quite proud *pats shoulder*

A Court of Mist and Fury and A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas: Yes, I have finally read this series and I have become absolute trash for it. Feysand is my LIFE and the Inner Circle are my babies and Velaris is my actual HOME. I know that this series is problematic at times and I acknowledge that but I am obsessed with it. 5 stars to both of these books! ❤

I had to read both The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde for class and they were good reads!

And do you know what that means? For once, I have actually managed to read all of the books on my TBR!!! To be fair, I only had 3 books on my May TBR and 2 of them were required reads for uni but STILL! YAY ME!

*click on the book covers to be directed to the Goodreads page*

My favourite reads of the month have definitely been both ACOMAF and ACOWAR along with One Of Us Is Lying! I will have a review for the latter up on Thursday!

Currently Reading

I am still reading The Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova! I am participating in a buddy read hosted by the author but I’ve been slacking lately *oops*. I am really loving the book though and I can’t wait for the sequel to come out! (I already have an e-ARC of the 2nd book which I’m so excited about!!! :D)

What I’ve Watched

NOTHING! Ever since I created my book blog, I’ve been slacking with watching any kind of TV! There are no TV shows that I’m interested in keeping up with and I’m not really in the mood to start a new one! Sooooo yeah. No answer here! XD

What I Listened To

Let me check my monthly Spotify playlist real quick…….

Here’s the video if you haven’t seen it yet. It’s the best thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

Awesome posts by fellow bloggers published this month

Future Plans
  • get through most of my Netgalley ARCs because I’m sick of them and I want to skip out on reading/requesting ARCs for a while BECAUSE IT’S STRESSING ME OUT
  • write more Discussion posts: I’ve been having quite a few ideas for discussion posts lately but I’m too lazy to write them lol
  • fix/clean-up my blog: meaning aesthetic-wise and schedule-wise and content-wise (does that even make sense lol)
  • START WRITING: ohhh my god I have all these ideas in my head and I really want to write a story so hopefully that will be happening soon

I have more plans but I can’t remember them so that’s it for now XD

ANOTHER SUPER LONG WRAP-UP BUT I HOPE YOU ENJOYED IT.

Thank you for reading!

How many books did you read in May? Did you watch any new TV shows/movies? What were your favorite songs to listen to this month? Any concrete plans for the following months? Let’s chat in the comments!

April Wrap-Up

HOW. DID. THIS. HAPPEN.

I literally blinked and suddenly it’s the end of April! Time is just going CRAZY!

Anyway, this will be a long one so let’s not talk too much! Please enjoy my April Wrap-Up 🙂

What I Read/A Very ARC-ish Readathon

This month I read a total of 8 books! Having this book blog is helping me read a lot more than I used to which is amazing!!!

This month I was participating in the A Very ARC-ish Readathon which was hosted by Aimal over at Bookshelves and Paperbacks. The first 7 books I read this month were ARCs from NetGalley!

I made a promise to myself to not request any ARCs on Netgalley until my ratio was at least at the precious 80% (except if it’s a book that I’ve been HIGHLY anticipating). I am currently at 62% which I’m very proud of because I’ve caught up quite a bit! I still have a few books pending but I am hoping to read more of them in May and hopefully get to 80% next month! :’)

ARCS I READ

  • The Castaways – Jessika Fleck: This was an okay read. I had a few issues with it but overall it was a solid read! I have a review of The Castaways up on my blog and I also got the chance to participate in the Castaways blog tour and interview the author Jessica Fleck!
  • Unknown Horizons – CJ Birch: The premise of this book had so much potential but I ended up being disappointed because the whole thing just felt underdeveloped! Here is my review of Unknown Horizons.
  • The Magician’s Lie – Greer Macallister: This was described as ‘Water for the Elephants’ meets ‘The Night Circus’ and it was an overall enjoyable read! Full review is on Goodreads.
  • Slow Boat – Hideo Furukawa: I don’t know if I just didn’t understand what this book was trying to convey but I did not like this AT ALL! It was a genuinely MESSY book – letters were missing, the narrator jumped from one place to the next and I almost DNFed it! Full review is on Goodreads.

  • The Song of the Stork – Stephan Collishaw: This was a 4 star read for me. This was a story set during WW2 and I like reading those stories if they’re done well! And this one definitely was! Full review is on Goodreads.
  • The Space Between the Stars – Anne Corlett: This was a story set in space where a group of survivors go on an adventurous journey through space, dreaming of a new beginning. This was another 4 star read for me! A review of The Space Between the Stars will be up closer to publication (end of May).
  • 180 Seconds – Jessica Park: This was one of my most recent reads and I’ll just link you to my blog review if you haven’t seen it yet! 😉

OTHER BOOKS I READ (that weren’t ARCs lol)

A Court of Thorns and Roses – Sarah J. Maas: AHHHHH!!! What a LOVELY read. I wasn’t too invested in the romance because I knew how that would go in Book 2 lol but it was still amazing. I LOVED Feyre as a character – she’s so smart, sassy and just fabulous ❤

By the way, I won’t be reviewing this one anywhere because most of you have probably already read it lol. But if you HAVEN’T, I can 100% recommend it!!!!!!

CURRENTLY READING

  • Persuasion – Jane Austen: As you may know, I am attempting to read one classic every month. I am about halfway through Persuasion but it’s been difficult to get through – whenever I was reading it, my thoughts were wandering. I think I am putting this on hold for now.
  • Heartborn – Terry Maggert: Another Netgalley ARC – I’ve been reading this one during my 20-minute train journeys on my way to uni and it’s alright so far!
  • A COURT OF MIST AND FURY – SJM: I didn’t get very far yet BUT IM ALREADY SCREAMING AND CRYING AND BREAKING DOWN SOOOOOO :’)

BOOKS I’VE STARTED/ATTEMPTED TO READ BUT ARE ON HOLD FOR NOW

PLEASE DON’T ASK ME WHY I’VE PUT BOTH OF THESE ON HOLD BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW!!! I wasn’t ready for the feels that hit me when I started Six of Crows and I was VERY ashamed when I put it back on my shelf 😦 Same with Simon Vs!!! I’ll return to SOC when I’m emotionally ready for the feels and have recovered from ACOMAF!!!

What I Watched

Pets

I’ve been meaning to watch Pets for a while! One morning I saw that it was on TV and since I had nothing better to do I watched the whole thing! It was soooooo hilarious, funny and just adorable!!! 10/10 would recommend! ❤

13 Reasons Why

I started 13 Reasons Why at the beginning of the month. Originally, I hadn’t planned to watch the series AT ALL – I wasn’t interested because the teaser trailers didn’t convince me and I felt like I wouldn’t like it. But ever since it came out, there’s just been a lot of talk and hype surrounding it and so I gave in and started it.

Right now, I am only about halfway through. Partly, because I’ve been a busy bee – visiting Munich, going away for Easter, going back to university – but also because it’s a show with very dark and heavy topics that sometimes trigger my anxiety. I could never binge-watch the show in like a day or two like some people do – I can barely get through an episode sometimes! So far I am liking it though.

SkamAlso Skam is back again! If you don’t know it (umm, have you been living under a rock???!!?!), it’s a Norwegian TV show and each season is about a different teen who struggles with certain things. It addresses very relevant topics and has some incredible characters! GO WATCH IT NOWWW!

Unfortunately, this is the last season of Skam :((((((( I’m so SAD! But they’ve made Sana the main character for this one and I’M GLAD because that’s what I’ve been hoping for! Sana is just ICONIC and A QUEEN! I didn’t really get the chance to actually watch a full episode – cue my busy life – but I hear that it’s great!

I also really need to rewatch Season 2 because I miss Noorhelm and I need to delve back into the FEELS. My sweet children. ❤

What I Listened To

To start off, I’d just like to mention my Top 3 songs of the month. I literally did not go a day without listening to at least one of these songs (if not all of them).

THE THREE MASTERPIECES OF APRIL:

PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND LISTEN TO ALL THREE OF THESE ❤ They’re all incredible songs and I don’t think I’ll stop listening to them anytime soon.

Blackbear’s do re mi gives me the greatest vibes! He has also released his new album – if you’re into that R&B-ish type of music, give it a listen – it’S DOPE!!!!

Also…….. Harry Styles – Sign of the Times. GO LISTEN TO THE SONG OF THE YEAR, ARTIST OF THE YEAR, ALBUM OF THE YEAR, BEST-SELLING TOUR OF THE YEAR. HARRY IS SNATCHING EVERYONE’S WEAVES LEFT AND RIGHT!!!!!!!!

If you don’t know about Banks, stop what you’re doing and check out her music. She is just incredible. I love her sooooo incredibly much and Crowded Places is just so gorgeous – a love song to all the introverts out there ❤

OTHER SONGS I’VE ENJOYED THIS MONTH:

  • Despacito – Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee (I am a SUCKER for spanish songs!!!)
  • Slide – Frank Ocean, Calvin Harris, Migos
  • Good Life – Kehlani ft. G-Eazy
  • I Feel It Coming – The Weeknd (this has sneaked it’s way back into the playlist because it’s all over the radioooo and it gives me great vibes)
  • Love Galore – SZA ft. Travis Scott (this only just came out and it’s DOPE)

March Wrap-Up

Happy last day of March everyone!

I can’t believe it’s the end of the month already! March went by so fast I barely even had time to blink! I only have a few weeks left of spring break until my busy uni life starts again which is saddddd 😦

Anyway, this is going to be a big wrap-up so I’ll just jump right in!

Books I Read

This month I read a total of 12 (!!!) books. I am honestly amazed at myself! I don’t think I have ever read this many books in a month! This book blog is really helping me read a lot more! Last year I only read 18 books IN TOTAL. That’s like, nothing compared to the books I read this month, hahaha!

Below you will find a list of all the books I’ve read this month and my rating for each of them! I’ll also link you to my reviews which are either up on my blog or on Goodreads! I’ve put hearts next to my favourite reads of the month :’)

Beauty of the Beast Death's Queen Ruin and Rising Beauty of the Beast

Ruin and Rising Geekerella Hold My Hand Emma

Death's Queen Angelfall Future Leaders Of Nowhere Angelfall

Reviews for both Geekerella and Future Leaders of Nowhere will be up on my blog next week so keep an eye out for that! I also have a review written for Angelfall but I honestly have no idea when I will upload it to my blog! Please let me know if you’re interested in it so I might schedule it for some time in April!

TV shows/Movies I watched

Okay so, veryone in my life knows that I am the biggest The Vampire Diaries fan and that it’s my favourite tv show of all time! TVD is the only show in my life that I’ve been watching since Day 1. I was 12 when the first episode aired and I literally grew up with it. And here we are 8 years later :’)

So you can imagine how I felt when the last episode aired on March 11th. I stayed up until 2am to live-watch the episode and I don’t think I ever cried that much in my life. I’ve been crying all day before the episode even aired because I couldn’t believe my favourite show was going to end :(, I cried all the way through the episode, and I cried for a whole hour afterwards before even attempting to fall asleep.

I was scared that I wouldn’t like the ending because how can you create a perfecting ending for a show like that? But I absolutely loved it! The ending brought me closure and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I think Julie Plec phrased it really well;  “It’s heartbreak. It’s hope. It’s happiness. It’s sadness. It’s definitely a clear sense of the future for many characters. It should feel like the end of a nice, beautiful, long novel that you’re finally bringing to a close.”

Songs I Listened To

I create a new Spotify playlist every month with songs I’ve been loving and these are the ones I particularly enjoyed and couldn’t stop listening to this month! I’ve added YouTube links where I could!

There’s probably more but I can’t think of them right now!!!

In March I managed to get over 50 followers (we’re close to 100 now like whaaaat?!) and over 100 likes on my posts! I honestly didn’t expect to get ANY comments or followers whatsoever! BY THE WAY; a TBR list and a most anticipated releases post for April will be up in a few days so get excited! Or not! Whatever flows your boat 😉

Was March a successful reading month for you? How many books have you read? Did you read any of these books? Did you like/hate them? What are your plans for April? Let’s chat in the comments!

February Wrap-Up

Well, this month has been very sparse when it comes to books if I do say so myself. I have only managed to read 4 (ok, let’s be honest, 3 and a half) books in the month of February but that wasn’t my fault! I’ve been writing all my exams in the first 3 weeks of the month so I only really had time to read in the past week and a half. But I’ll do better in March and hopefully tackle my huge TBR list! I will have reviews for all of these up soon so keep an eye out!

Anyway, here’s my February Wrap-Up:

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

everything-everythingGoodreads: “My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.”

(A review of Everything Everything will be up soon!)

Shadow and Bone (The Grisha #1) by Leigh Bardugo

Goodreads: “Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.shadow-and-bone-cover

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.

Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart.

Shadow and Bone is the first installment in Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha Trilogy.”

(A review of Shadow and Bone is up on my blog!)

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

caravalGoodreads: Whatever you’ve heard about Caraval, it doesn’t compare to the reality. It’s more than just a game or a performance. It’s the closest you’ll ever find to magic in this world . . .

Welcome, welcome to Caraval―Stephanie Garber’s sweeping tale of two sisters who escape their ruthless father when they enter the dangerous intrigue of a legendary game.

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.”

(A review for Caraval will be up soon!)

Siege and Storm (The Grisha #2) by Leigh Bardugo

Goodreads: Darkness never dies.siege-and-storm

Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land. She finds starting new is not easy while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. She can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.

The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her–or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.“

(Technically, I’ve finished this book in March but I’d still like to mention it in my February Wrap-Up 😉 You can find my review for Siege and Storm here!)
